| A
non-penetrating fastening system is defined as securing tile to the
roof in a manner that limits the number of tile fastener penetrations
into the waterproofing membrane, (The average "S" tile will
create from 75 to 100 holes in the waterproofing when installed using
nails), the penetrations that do occur, are sealed and the integrity
of the waterproofing maintained. Non-penetrating systems evolved to
secure the tile to the roof and to protect the waterproofing. |

The
Twist Wire System is one of the oldest of the non-penetrating systems
in use. It is comprised of two wires, that are twisted together with
formed eyelets at approximately six inches on center. The eyelets
are used to attach the Twist Wire to the decking substrate, using
an applicable fastener, and for the appropriate tie wire for securing
the tiles. |

The Standard
Twist Wire Anchor, #102, is manufactured from a one inch wide flat
stock cut to a length of two inches, with two pre-punched fastener
holes at each end and two "legs" formed from the center,
for the intent of securing the #101 by placing the #101 eyelet over
the #102 legs and then folding down the legs. Nails or screws are
applicable to wooden substrates, 3/16 diameter compression anchors
may be used on concrete decks, various screws are utilized on metal
deck applications. Consult with the Wire Works Inc., to verify anchor

Disc Anchoring
comprises the use of two, three inch diameter disc and a screw, (for
metal or wood decks), or a compression anchor, (for concrete decks),
when used to secure the #101, Twist Wire System. The disc are used
to "Sandwich", (one under, to the deck, and one over the
Twist Wire), with the deck applicable fastener, running through the
center of the disc and #101 Twist Wire eyelet. The fastener is then
secured tight to the deck, compressing the #101 Twist Wire in place.
The bottom disc acts as a bearing surface, protecting the waterproofing,
as the top disc and fastener apply the required pressure. When this
technique is used with the SST- 1, only the base use of the disc is
routinely utilized .Consult the Wire Works Inc., to verify anchor/deck
securement. |

Jiffy
Ties offer a unique wiring method that has been utilized in various
designs for years. As the name implies, Jiffy Ties are quicker to
apply then standard tie wires. Jiffy Ties are manufactured in two
styles; #103A incorporates a pre-formed hook or nose clip device.
The #103A is especially suited to the cover sections of the tile.
The #103B is formed with a single 90° bend that locks and seats
onto the tile for securement. The #103B has no hook or nose clip device.
On two-piece tile applications, the #103A is usually specified to
the cover, with the #103B, to the pan.
